Understand how review access, completion status, criteria, scores, affiliate links and conflicts are handled.
Access does not buy approval
A review copy, screening link, event invitation or early build may make coverage possible, but it does not entitle the provider to a positive verdict, preview of the review or removal of criticism. Relevant access conditions and material relationships should be disclosed.
Reviewers should experience enough of the work to support their conclusions. If a game, series or long-running publication is not completed, the article must describe the scope actually reviewed.
Scores and changes
A numerical score is optional and appears only when supported by a written assessment. Post-release patches or corrected editions may justify an update, but a score is not changed merely because readers, publishers or advertisers disagree.
Transparency and accountability
The policy works with the rest of our public standards rather than in isolation. Bylines identify responsibility, sources should be credited, material conflicts should be disclosed and confirmed mistakes should be corrected. We do not create fake experts, fabricated quotations or misleading claims of firsthand experience.
Editors may update this policy as workflows, law or publishing technology changes. A policy update does not erase responsibility for previously published work.
Questions about this policy
Questions or well-supported concerns can be sent through the Contact page. Include the relevant URL and a concise explanation. We distinguish good-faith criticism from pressure intended to suppress accurate reporting or manipulate an independent opinion.
